Innovation Day 2021

Hi, everyone! Welcome to our blog about Solar energy. The sun has produced energy for billions of years! This means that people have been using solar energy to cook food, stay warm, and dry clothes for hundreds of years. Solar cells convert sunlight into electricity. Photovoltaic cells are another name for solar cells. The terms “picture” and “voltaic” are Latin for “light” and “electricity,” respectively. We chose to do solar energy for our project because it is eco-friendly and once you buy the solar panels the rest is all free! We are excited to show you our model for an eco-friendly park!

COVID-19 has made a huge impact on our lives. We can’t go to many places such as:

  • If your family member is in the hospital, you can’t go and visit them.
  • Social Areas
  • Restaurants
  • Amusement park
  • Work Areas

There is a good side to COVID though, for example:

  • Your parents have to work from home so you get to spend more time with them.
  • People use cars less so there’s not as much gas pollution in the world as there were before.
  • Not that many crimes are going on.
  • Not many trees are being cut down because the animals in forests can have the virus.

Our idea was to build an energy-efficient playground with a zipline, a swing set, a play structure with a ladder and a slide. Solar panels will be found around the park in certain different areas, we are using solar panels to power lamp posts around the park and the swing set will move on its own so the parents will not have to push their children. Even though solar panels cost money, it is fine because sunlight is free! The park can still maintain the fun and entertaining aesthetic of a park. The zipline is also very fast which is very fun to go on.

Science Experiment

On January 20th, 2021 we had this scientist in the school experiment. Our job was to find out what this mystery powder was made of. First, we had to dip flour into water, and the water became foggy. Then we had to dip Epsom salt into water, the water was clear and the salt dissolved. Then we had to dip baking soda into water and it also turned out foggy. The next step was to dip a Q-tip into water then draw a line with that Q-tip on black construction paper. Then we did the same thing with flour and baking soda. The water line took a long time to dry but the Epsom salt dried really quickly and the baking soda also dried pretty quickly too. Our next step was to dip Epsom salt in water and see how many spoons it took to not dissolve. It took me four spoons until it did not dissolve. Then we had to dip cabbage and vitamin c and baking soda into the water and the water inflated with bubbles. In the end, we found out that the mystery powder was baking soda and flour.

Two Of The Same

A few months ago I made a paragraph about  Masks   . 2 months later I did a paragraph on Minecraft. In my mask paragraph, I still need to work on putting transition words at the right time, adding more detail, and not skipping lines while writing.

Then when I did my Minecraft paragraph. I improved on those three things much more. I added more transition words, added more details and didn’t skip as many lines. I still have much more to improve on in my next paragraph like not skipping any lines, putting a lot more detail, and using transition words better.

Wonder

Wonder is about a person named Auggie who has a facial deformity. He gets bullied a lot about his face and is always trying to hide it. He was homeschooled by his mother and finally they thought he was ready for normal school. Auggie was really scared to go to school because people may make fun of him. Before school, he met the principal name Mr. Tushman. Auggie started laughing. Mr.Tushman’s nickname was Tushy. Mr. Tushman wanted Auggie to meet with 3 students before school started. Auggie was scared he never knew he would have to see anybody in person yet. Auggie’s mom wanted him to do it and thought it would help him make friends. The 3 people were a girl named Charlotte, a guy named Jack Will, and another guy named Julian. Julian was a bully, Charlotte was crazy, and jack was nice. They made friends. eventually on halloween Jack said he would kill himself if he looked like Auggie. Auggie was really depressed about it. Eventually Jack knew what he said was wrong and said sorry to each other and became friends again. At school they had a field trip and Jack and Auggie had to go pee so they went into the woods to do their business. A few bullies came along and attacked them. But suddenly Julian’s friends were there and helped them out. In the end they all become friends and stop bullying Auggie.

My Genius Hour Project.

My Genius hour project is to make one of those arcade basketball nets. The arcade game will have walls on the side to block it from going away. There will also be a ramp under the basketball net so you don’t have to move a single bit. And of course there will be a stopper at the end of the ramp so you don’t have to have fast reflexes to catch it. There will be two nets so you can play against your friend. I will also consider creating a score system for each side of the walls. I hope it doesn’t break!

Social Studies Quiz

Last week I had my first Social Studies quiz on the map of Canada. One thing I know really well right now is the capitals.  I think I’ve studied that so much that it will never leave my brain. Next, I would like to learn all the city’s in each province and territories. One thing that helped me study was my parents. They would quiz me twenty times until I got them all right. That really helped because I don’t know how i would be able to do that test without memorizing it.

Ski racing

Equipment: pole guards, shin guards, chin guard and Racing helmet.

Order of ski racing: U10-U12-U14-U16-U18-fist-world cup

Ski racing is really fun there’s three types of ski racing alpine, super G and slalom.

Alpine is usually a normal race on stubbies, super G is when you go so fast around double gates and slalom could be on stubbies or full gates. Full gates are where the pole guards come in. You have to hit the full gates with the arm farthest from the gate.

First the girls race then the boys. But before the race your group does a test run to not make it so powdery. Well you do your test run the coaches give you advise on each turn. Now the race, when you get to the bottom of the hill you quickly look at your time and then you go in for lunch. After lunch the run is totally different, the gates are changed, the side of the hill is changed, everything is changed. You do a test run then the girls race then the boys race. After the race you give your pinny back in. Then you take a break to relax in the lodge. After that you go to see who wins 5th place gets a badge 4th place also gets a badge 3rd gets a bronze medal 2nd gets a silver medal and 1rst gets a gold medal.

Ways you could get eliminated: falling, missing a gate, straddling a gate and hitting the gate with the wrong hand. If you fall and miss a gate, you could still get up and hike to the gate and re-do it. But that will take away a lot of time. Missing a gate could be going around the wrong side or falling and not getting back up. Straddling a gate is going through a gate, and hitting the gate with the wrong hand is hitting the gate with the hand closest to the gate.

If you were in ski racing you would call it a dnf, it stands for did not finish. Dsq stands for disqualified.

Not every day is a race or a practice course. Usually it’s just a normal day and we do some training activities. Sometimes we practice the kick start. The kick start is how we push out of the starting box.

Before it’s time to race we play in the ring. When it’s close to our turn the coaches call us to get in line, then we go to the starting box and start our race.

Usually around each turn there is blue spray paint so you could see which way to go around the gate. If it is a cold and foggy day the blue spray paint will help a lot. Also at the end there is a laser to see what time you get. Most people put their fist down right on the laser for good luck.

At the start of the race you’re going to feel worried. If you fall, if you miss a gate or if you straddle a gate. If you get eliminated it’s very embarrassing. Every year there’s about 4 races and most a lot of people get eliminated. I was lucky that I didn’t get eliminated, only one other of my friends didn’t get eliminated. When i asked my friends that did get eliminated how did they feel they said it’s very embarrassing. So every single race I would feel scared. The second race after i would feel so good because i would know that i won’t fall. After each race when you finish you could look at a list of what time each person got. There are about 60 boys and 60 girls. If you’re from the same ski place as another person you’re on the same team as them but at the same time you’re not. To get a medal you still have to beat your teammates. But if your teammates win a medal you would go and congratulate them. Your time in both races are combined to see who wins
